I spent the day on Tuesday at the children's hospital in Nashville with some friends. Their daughter and granddaughter was having a very delicate surgery performed to remove some masses on her spine.

Help needed for vets' graveside wreaths

The organizer of the local observance of Wreaths Across America needs help to place wreaths on the graves of every veteran at Willow Mount Cemetery. Shelly Baker addressed the crowd at Cascade Elementary School during a Veterans Day Ceremony. She spoke about such themes as courage, pride and integrity, and acknowledged the sacrifices of the families of those who serve overseas. Baker, a fourth-grade teacher at the school, served as a U.S. Navy bosun's mate, corpsman, and cargo handler, and later served with the U.S. Army.
