Scholarship donation (Local News ~ 01/17/17)
Continuing its support of technical education, the Gene Haas Foundation has donated funds to the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Shelbyville Machine Tool Technology program for student scholarships. Gene Haas is America's leading builder of CNC machine tools. Quilts for children (Local News ~ 01/17/17)
Flat Creek Family and Community Education Club members donated homemade quilts to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office as their final activity before shutting down. The club has been active since 1965, member Cecelia Dougan said, and is breaking up because members are heavily involved in other activities. From left are Emma Tyree, Sgt. Josh Tolar, Candace Lawen, Rhonda Styer, Cecelia Dougan, Debbie Ottinger, deputy Jared Featherstone and Sheriff Austin Swing. The club donated 12 youth-sized quilts deputies will give to children who must be removed from their homes. First United Methodist Church has a similar program for city police. The self-proclaimed "Greatest Show On Earth" announced last week that it was shutting down operations after 146 years.
