Pharmacist Tripp York has shaven his face. A man's shaving habits may not always make the news, but in York's case, the trim was made for charitable reasons. York had grown his beard and mustache out since Halloween 2015 for No-Shave November. No-Shave November, or Movember, is an annual initiative where men grow mustaches for a month to raise awareness of cancer. Man avoids drones, dogs to elude police

Dogs and drones were unsuccessful in finding a man who eluded Shelbyville police by vehicle and on foot Tuesday afternoon. Patrol officers were notified by a detective that Joshua Brown was allegedly driving without a license in a red Jeep Cherokee. Officer Jon Cooke said he saw the SUV at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Myers Street. Brown allegedly sped out State Highway 130 at speeds up to 90 mph after being blue-lighted...

Thomas Magnet extends application deadline

Thomas Magnet School is accepting applications for grades kindergarten-5 for the 2017-2018 academic year. The deadline has been extended to Tuesday, Feb. 7. Applications are available online at thomasmagnet.tn.bcm.schoolinsites.com. Evaluations for incoming kindergarten students will take place this month and for other incoming students on March 10. All Bedford County public schools are closed today due to widespread illnesses and absenteeism amid reports some students wore face masks in class Thursday. Methamphetamine use drove the manufacture of a large number of counterfeit bills passed in Shelbyville over the past few weeks, police say.
