Shelbyville Central High School drama teacher Marla Agee and three of her students were guests at a recent meeting of Bedford County Retired Teachers. The Unionville FCE Club met Feb. 21, with Virgie Summers serving as president in the absence of Elizabeth Blackburn. Stranded driver gets a ride -- to jail

A stranded motorist got a lift -- to jail -- Friday. Shelbyville Police Officer Bobby Peacock reported that he stopped to render aid to a broken down vehicle Friday evening at the intersection of Madison and Whitthorne streets. Peacock reported that Darryl Keith Pogue exited the vehicle "in a staggering motion," and the officer told him to get back in the car so he would not get hit by traffic. NEW YORK (AP) -- Tens of thousands of chickens have been destroyed at a Lincoln County chicken farm due to a bird flu outbreak and 30 other farms within a six-mile radius have been quarantined. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said 73,500 chickens were destroyed at the facility and will not enter the food system. The H7 avian influenza can be deadly to chickens and turkeys... -

A birthday party on Madison Street ended with shots fired early Sunday, leaving one attendee seriously wounded and slightly injuring another.
