Vietnam Vets welcome speaker (Local News ~ 03/14/17)
Vietnam Era Veterans’ guest speaker for March was Debra Nelson, from Black and Blue Sports of Shelbyville. Nelson spoke about custom printing of shirts and hats. Two veterans in the group wore shirts and hats made by Black and Blue to the event. From left art Tom Taylor, Nelson, and Jim Tennant. DUI leads to multiple arrests

Early Friday morning, Officers Darrell Birdsong and Michael Taylor of the Shelbyville Police Department responded to a hit-and-run on Cannon Boulevard. According to the report, a vehicle ran a red light and ran into the path of another vehicle. An eyewitness stated that the maroon vehicle, later identified in the report as being driven by Alejandro Quintero Rosales, fled the scene. The witness was able to get tag information...

The Motlow College Foundation recently announced the recipients of two alumni awards which will be presented at the 25th Annual Motlow Gala on Saturday, March 25. The recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award is Chris Jones of Murfreesboro. Jones is a 1985 graduate of Motlow State, where he received an Associate's Degree in General Studies. ... -
State releases disciplinary report

Parents settle lawsuit with school district

The parents of a former Southside Elementary student settled a lawsuit March 7 with the Bedford County School system over the alleged mistreatment of their son in October of 2014. The parents initiated the lawsuit in federal court on Feb. 2, 2016. The school district agreed to give the parents $10,000 to be "used for medical expenses, counseling sessions, various therapies, and any other educational expenses that may arise for the benefit of this child."...

Juvenile facility could remain

County Mayor Eugene Ray says he doesn't envision the county closing its juvenile detention center -- in fact, he believes the center will probably be expanded once the county sheriff's office moves out. Bell Buckle railroad closure delayed again

Bell Buckle Town Hall has been notified by CSX Transportation that the closure of the railroad crossing on State Route 82 (Webb Road) has been postponed yet again. It's now scheduled to close at 8 a.m. Thursday and reopen at 8 a.m. Friday. The railroad crossing on Fairfield Pike is not affected and may be used as an alternate route, point out town officials...
