Celebrating her 101st (Local News ~ 06/01/17)
Helen Z. Harper turned 101 May 22. She celebrated her birthday on Friday with friends at the Shelbyville-Bedford County Senior Citizens Center. Helen was born on May 22, 1916 and grew up in the Town of Hyde Park in Duchess County, New York. As a young adult she went through some of the darkest days of our country’s history – the Great Depression and WWII. She lived all her life in the same neighborhood in New York until four years ago. Jobless rate falls

The state says in a May 25 report that in April there were 19,970 workers available for work in Bedford County and 750 of them were unemployed. In the same report, the state says 19,210 of Bedford County's available workers were employed leaving 10 whose status was unaccounted for. (According to the Tennessee Department of Labor the numbers don't add up because of "rounding of the data.")...
