Water Safety Day held (Local News ~ 06/14/17)
The ninth annual Water Safety Day was held Saturday at Shelbyville Recreation Center. The event, featuring games and lessons designed to teach water safety, is held in memory of Matthew Woods, who drowned in August 2008 in a pool at his aunt’s house in Chapel Hill. He was 2 years old. This year’s event drew more than 170 participants, according to organizers. There was a plaque presentation in Woods’ memory during this year’s event. The event is sponsored by Shelbyville Parks and Recration, United Way of Bedford County and Shelbyville Fire Department. Woods’ father is a city firefighter. (Submitted photos) -
