Surprise birthday celebration (Local News ~ 08/03/17)
A surprise 80th birthday celebration for Joyce Boggs, honoring her eight years of service to Bedford County Imagination Library as database coordinator and corresponding secretary, was held July 30 at Shelbyville Recreation Center. The event was given by her children and grandchildren, and in lieu of gifts, guests made contributions to Imagination Library. The Imagination Library program, founded by entertainer Dolly Parton, provides a free book a month to every Tennessee child from birth to age 5, a total of 60 books in all. Currently, two anonymous donors have a matching challenge for donations to the program; for each dollar donated by the public, the anonymous donors will contribute $2. Armed robbery suspect, 16, transferred to adult court

The case against a 16-year-old boy accused in two robberies has been transferred to adult court due to the amount of violence involved, investigators say. Ronnie L. "Boona" Thomason was one of two suspects who approached a car occupied by a 20-year-old woman and a girl, 14, in the parking lot of Stonebrook Apartments shortly before 11 p.m. April 27 and demanded money at gunpoint, Shelbyville police were told. Bruce Johnson looks on as Bedford County firefighters extinguish the flames that claimed the barn at his home on Pass Road Wednesday morning. Johnson did manage to pull his portable sawmill out of the barn before it was consumed. The mill, he said, was the only thing of significant value in the barn.
