Man honored for respecting flag (Local News ~ 08/10/17)
Longtime Shelbyville resident William T. “Bill” Cox Jr. was presented by the local Joseph Greer Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) with a Commendation for Exemplary Patriotism in Display of the United States flag. Chapter president Donnie Porter presented the certificate to Cox at his home after learning of his faithful and proper display of the American flag. Presentations such as this are part of the SAR’s ongoing Americanism program. Cox has been flying his flag for years but a recent round of storms had seriously damaged his flagpole. He replaced the pole and its solar lighting module to get his flag flying again. Cox comes from a military family. His father, William T. Cox Sr., a WWII and Korean War veteran, retired from the U.S. Air Force and his brothers all served in the U.S. Army. Cox is a retired nurse who worked for St. Thomas Hospital. His wife, Dee, and his mother and sister were also nurses. His daughter is a nurse and his son is a paramedic. (Submitted photo) -
