The Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution held their first meeting of the 2017-18 fiscal year at the Riverbend Country Club on Sept. 27. In observance of Constitution Week, Forest A. Durard, Circuit Court judge for the 17th Judicial District gave an address concerning the U. S. Constitution with an emphasis on the First Amendment. Shelbyville Lions Club members Peggy Bush, Eddie Wright and Bryant Shearin are shown conducting a recent vision screening of a student at Learning Way Elementary School. A total of 54 children were screened at that school that day and the club also screened at Eakin School that same week. Each year the club screens local daycares, pre-school, kindergarten and 4th grade students This early prevention is critical in catching and preventing future eye problems. (Submitted photo) -

Hearing clinic celebrates anniversary

The Protestant Reformation may have happened 500 years ago, but it will be the focus of a church conference next week. Beth Sar Shalom Reformed Christian Church will host "Reformation: 500 Years Later" next Monday through Friday. The times are 7-9 p.m. daily. The League of the South, a white nationalist group which held rallies in Shelbyville and Murfreesboro in 2013, plans a "white lives matter" rally in Shelbyville along with other groups on October 28, according to a posting on the website occidentaldissent.com.
