Ashley Stevens, a University of Montevallo student from Wartrace, recently played the role of Sheila Franklin in the university’s production of “Hair: An American Tribal Love-Rock Musical.” Stevens is a musical theatre and communication studies double major at the university, expecting her degree in 2019. She graduated from Tullahoma High School in 2015. In addition to her role in “Hair,” Stevens is a Montevallo Maven and a member of the Honors Program. “I was very honored to play this role and I was so excited to share it with an audience!” said Stevens. “Hair,” inspired by the counter-culture movement of the 1960s, revolves around a group of hippies living in New York City, and their navigation through the changing political climate of their time. The show ran Nov. 16-20. -

Cory Flippo, standing, and Keith Davis are part of a comedically-disastrous Christmas program in The Fly Arts Center’s holiday production of “Christmas Belles.” The comedy, by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, will be presented in dinner theater format Dec. 1-2 and 8-9 with dinner at 6 p.m. and the performance at 7 p.m. There will also be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Dec. 10, without a meal. Two men suspected of breaking into a Shapard Drive home early Thursday are being sought by Shelbyville police. Camari Davon Cannon and Julian Harris will be charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent felony.
