Each year from Dec. 26-31, the number of donations at Goodwill Donation Express Centers skyrockets. In 2016, donations of clothing and household goods tripled during that period compared to other days of the year. Donations are sold in Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee stores to fund the nonprofit organization's mission of changing lives through education, training and employment. ...

The Waters of Shelbyville will host the annual Lights for Love open house and fundraiser for the Bedford County Medical Association Alliance at 5 p.m. Thursday. There will be light refreshments and singing of Christmas carols. Free photos with Santa start at 6 p.m. For each $5 donation, an ornament will be placed on the Christmas tree in the front lobby either in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Businesses to get bigger trash cans

The City of Shelbyville hopes to supersize the trash cans offered to businesses. The City Council is expected to debate changing commercial cans during Thursday's meeting. The proposal is to swap out businesses' existing 34-gallon cans for two 96-gallon bins, according to city documents. Currently, businesses are allowed up to four of the smaller carts...
