Four Corners FCE Club met Jan. 22 at the Extension Office with 10 members present. President Connie Smith called the meeting to order. Secretary Barbara Barnes read the minutes. Roll call was answered with the favorite thing to do on a snowy day. Smith gave the educational program, entitled "Hospice: Options for Care." Business included assigning hostesses for the new year, filling out club report forms, recording club hours and donations for the past year. ...

Countess named to Harding dean's list

Marissa Countess, a junior public relations major from Shelbyville, is among more than 1,400 Harding University students included on the dean's list for grades achieved during the fall 2017 semester. The dean's list is published each semester by Dr. Marty Spears, university provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. Allison Reagan Mills of Shelbyville made the fall 2017 Dean's List at the University of North Georgia (UNG) for achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B. Columbia State Community College welcomes Austin Peay State University student Andrew Daunais to the Cherry Theater Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. for a classical vocal recital. Two charged with possession of meth

A Bell Buckle resident was charged with possession of meth after a truck, trailer and two pistols were taken from his father's house Monday without permission, the Bedford County Sheriff's Office said. Today is Election Day for the special primary election to fill the vacant 14th District State Senate seat. In the Republican primary, Joe Carr faces Shane Reeves; in the Democratic primary, Gayle Jordan is unopposed. The party nominees will move on to the March 13 general election. Former Shelbyville resident Cory Prestwood has received an award after graduating from the U.S. Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois.
