Community Middle World-Wide Service Project (Local News ~ 04/03/18)
The Community Middle School BETA Club and Student Council sponsored a school-wide service project called “Community Middle/World-Wide.” Students collected school supplies and medical supplies to support groups going to Belize, Nicaragua, and Peru. Both the Belize and Nicaragua trips will support teachers going into the local schools. The medical supplies are used when treating children and adults at medical clinics. The student body collected a total of 245 glue sticks and 105 coloring books for schools in Nicaragua. They also collected 6,550 cotton balls, 95 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 3,430 Band-Aids for Peru. For the Belize schools they collected 1,808 crayons and 286 pencil sharpeners. (Submitted photos) -
Cascade FFA attends state convention (Local News ~ 04/03/18)
During the week of March 25-28, 21 members of Cascade FFA attended the Tennessee State FFA Convention in Gatlinburg. They were among the approximately 3500 members, advisors and guest that registered for the convention. While there, members attended seven sessions and listened to the State Officer's retiring addresses, keynote speaker Patrick Grady, attended workshops and witnessed the election of the 2018-2019 state officers... -
Inmate allegedly assaults jailer

A Bedford County Jail inmate was charged with assault for allegedly spitting on a jailer early Saturday. Savon Alexander Williams, 24, of Green Lane had loosened his feet while in a restraining chair and was moving around in a hallway, which the incident report notes is a "safety hazard."...

Tyson stocks hit as China hikes import duties

Polk's final resting place still at issue (Local News ~ 04/03/18)
State Rep. Pat Marsh voted last month in favor of moving President James K. Polk's remains from Nashville to Columbia; the House is scheduled to consider the issue again on Thursday, and Marsh is still in favor of the idea. The State Senate passed the resolution a year ago.
