4-H sharpshooters assist police (Local News ~ 05/18/18)
Members of the Bedford County 4-H BB Sharpshooters team recently donated stuffed animals to the Shelbyville Police Department for the Cops and Kids Program to comfort children in difficult situations. Learning Way grads return (Local News ~ 05/18/18)
Mark Alan Caldwell, Gabby Westbrook, Linsey Stephens, and Natalith Lazarus are among the first high school seniors to have attended Learning Way Elementary when it opened. Author speaks to Arts Council (Local News ~ 05/18/18)
Bedford County Arts Council’s May potluck speaker was Jason Scales. Scales, seen here with Arts Council member Sue Thelen, discussed his new book, “How’s That Working For You?” The purpose of the book, his second, is for the reader to evaluate what is not working for them in their life and focus on how to change that to achieve their desired outcome. Scales was also asked about his first book, “Resilient: How To Bounce Back From Loss.” He briefly spoke on the family tragedies that led to that book and how people are not taught how to lose. Both books may be purchased online. Scales is a native of Shelbyville who now resides in Murfreesboro and founded Believers Faith Fellowship Church in January 2009. (Submitted photo) -

A car hauler, forklift battery. wood stove, hot water heater, vehicle carburetor and lawn tractor were taken within the last two weeks from a home on Fairfield Pike within Shelbyville, police said Wednesday. Suspects were named. A caller claiming to be an ATF agent (from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) notified a Charlotte Drive man that a pistol registered to him was involved in a criminal investigation and asked if he had it in his possession, police were told...

Graduation Day arrives (Local News ~ 05/18/18)
Shelbyville Central High School senior Braden McTigue joined 31 other soon-to-be graduates at Southside Elementary’s Senior Walk on Thursday. Southside students and teachers lined the halls as the new grads walked the halls in caps and gowns. County can afford to fund raises

Bedford County Financial Management Committee hopes to finalize the 2018-2019 county budget next week so that it can be voted on by the full county commission in June, and the numbers continue to look good. According to discussion at a budget meeting Thursday morning, the county can afford a 3 percent across-the-board raise for employees, plus a 1 percent annual step raise, as well as a variety of other agency and not-for-profit requests, without the need for a county property tax increase...
