Immigration. There are so many sides and complexities to this issue. Every day there is something a bit different in the news. So many upsetting stories of people who are just ordinary and people who are scary criminals. There are as many pro and con arguments out there as there ae solutions. It is hard to keep up, and often hard to make an informed decision. I get confused. Maybe you do, too...

I answered the house phone this morning, and the woman on the other end asked "Is Joe there?" I told her that she must have the wrong number, and there was no one here named Joe. Then I told her my name is Doug. She said, "Well hello Doug." And then she told me about a man she knew years ago named Doug and the joke he told about how he got his name. A hot week past, chance of storms to come

We saw temperatures soar into the 90s over the past week and heat index readings topped out over 100, rainfall was just hit-and-miss pop-up storms in the afternoon across Middle Tennessee. Most areas in Bedford County had only a quarter to half inch of rain last week with an inch recorded at 1 gauge about 9 miles west of Shelbyville. The coming week will see a pattern pretty typical of July with highs in the low-90s and about a 40 percent chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms...

Runners with America’s Run for the Fallen passed through Bedford County on Friday, stopping every mile to honor service members who gave their lives in the War on Terror. America’s Run for the Fallen kicked off April 7 at Fort Irwin, California for a five-month, 6,000-plus mile run through California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia to finish at Arlington National Cemetery, on Sunday, Aug. 5. The run was organized to honor the men and women who have died during the War on Terror beginning with the USS Cole on Oct. 12, 2000. Carrying a full-size American Flag, Honor and Remember Flag and Honor and Sacrifice Flag along with hero information, the relay team stops at one-mile intervals in to each service member, where a pre-staked “Hero Marker” is placed. Once again, United Way of Bedford County is seeking school supplies for its "Stuff The School Bus" campaign, which distributes the supplies to needy children through the local school system. All collected supplies stay in Bedford County. It's doubtful no one was more nervous in Bedford County Circuit Court Thursday morning than Drew Anthony Greer of Wartrace. The former Bedford County Sheriff's Department jailer was awaiting his sentence for bringing contraband, including drugs, into the county jail and for misconduct as a part of that crime.
