Those who challenge us in our lives are the ones we remember the most. Perhaps that is why 48 years later I still remember my math classes at Harris Junior High like they happened only yesterday. All during my seventh grade year I watched in horror as eighth graders struggled to memorize 100 math facts for teacher Wayde Hornaday. Math was never my strong point and I prayed often that someone else would be my teacher...

DREMC to hold membership meeting

Duck River Electric Membership Corp.'s annual membership meeting will be Saturday, Aug. 18 at Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with a business session at 9. The first 300 co-op members to register will receive special attendance prizes. Homeless man grabs tip jar

A man police say is homeless is accused of taking the tip jar from Southern Cup, North Main Street, walking away with $65 Tuesday. The suspect, who has not yet been charged, allegedly picked the jar up from a window. A photo of the man was posted on Facebook, taken from a video of the incident, and officer Bobby Peacock saw him a short time later...

Unless Lucretia Boyle Wright, Shelbyville's permit technician, has a demolition or building permit on file, like the ones obtained by an up and coming chicken chain, then business openings remain purely speculative. Current city permits on file, and also lack thereof, tell a lot about the current state of economic development in Shelbyville.
