Karen Ann Perryman, 74, of Shelbyville died Sunday, September 30, 2018. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, October 14 at Shiloh Methodist Church, Wheel. Visitation will follow at a potluck dinner in the church's fellowship hall. Arrangements: Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.

Shooting for hunger (Business ~ 10/10/18)
Tyson Foods Shelbyville recently fed over 500 people at the Shooting For Hunger sporting clays fundraiser event on Sept. 27 at the Nashville Gun Club. The event was coordinated by the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, Farm Credit Mid-America and the Tennessee Farmers Co-op and to date has provided for one million meals to help feed the hungry through Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville. The cooking team in charge of the brisket that day was led by Tim York and Leonard Locke. Webb hosts 'Rock For Human Rights'

Rock For Human Rights, founded in 2011 to educate the public about human rights, will perform 2:20 p.m. Monday at The Webb School in Bell Buckle as one of 30 stops on its national tour. The performance will take place in the Follin Chapel on campus and is free and open to the public. Donations to the organization can be made at the performance...

Vietnam veteran recounts the year that changed his life

Army veteran and local retired pastor Ross Maroney was guest speaker at the September meeting of the Vietnam Era Veterans group. Maroney spoke of the 12-month tour of military duty that turned into a lifelong personal war for him. He stated that "Vietnam came home with me" and it was a year that changed his life forever...

Wallace Cartwright has announced his candidacy for re-election as mayor of Shelbyville in the Nov. 6 general election. Cartwright served on Shelbyville City Council for 10 years prior to election as mayor 11 years ago. Author luncheon held (Local News ~ 10/10/18)
Meredith Burton speaks to the Friends of Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library’s annual author luncheon on Tuesday. Burton is the author of young adult fantasy novels “Crimilia,” “The Jarah Portal” and “Soral’s Rising,” and the forthcoming “Blind Beauty,” a twist on the story “Beauty and the Beast.” Burton was born three months premature and lost her sight to a related condition called retinopathy of prematurity. She’s a graduate of Tennessee School for the Blind and Middle Tennessee State University, and her remarks included stories about the challenges faced in navigating Murfreesboro and Nashville with visual disabilities. State Rep. Pat Marsh (R-Shelbyville) and State Sen. Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) said Tuesday that they have been informed by Secretary of State Tre Hargett that the Bedford County Archives will receive an archives development grant. Smotherman to leave road post (Local News ~ 10/10/18)
Bedford County Highway Superintendent Stanley Smotherman informed county commissioners Tuesday night that he intends to retire at the end of January, even though his current elected term runs through 2020. Smotherman has served as road superintendent since 2000 and has worked for the county highway department for more than 40 years... -
