Tyson assists hurricane victims (Business ~ 10/17/18)
Tyson Foods deployed its mobile kitchen and cook teams to Georgia and began serving meals to communities struck by Hurricane Michael on Sunday as part of the company’s “Meals that Matter” disaster relief program. Tyson cooks prepared and provided free meals both on site and throughout the community, using approximately 250,000 pounds of Tyson product. “Throughout our company’s history, our team members have always been quick to respond when disaster strikes in or near their communities,” Tyson Foods said in a press release. Luncheon, bazaar planning (Local News ~ 10/17/18)
Members of the United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church, along with church member and cook Andy Borders, met this week to continue planning for the church’s annual luncheon and holiday bazaar, which will take place 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the church. The annual turkey luncheon fundraiser has featured the same recipes for generations. A variety of handmade items will also be on sale, and the bakery and craft rooms will open at 10 a.m. Tickets are $15, available in advance from the church or members of its United Methodist Women. Bedford County Administrator of Elections Summer Leverette holds one of the signs that went up on the courthouse lawn this morning to announce early voting for the Nov. 6 general election. Early voting started today and continues through Nov. 1 in the basement of the county courthouse. Hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. You must bring photo ID to the polls. The election includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and state House seats, as well as the Shelbyville, Wartrace and Normandy elections.
