Good Citizen Award (Local News ~ 10/18/18)
Dwight Stubblefield received the Good Citizen Award on Tuesday from the Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee for his work in providing the nutritional supplements Boost and Ensure to cancer patients and others in need. Since it was organized in 2006, the Anne Stubblefield Cancer Outreach, which honors Stubblefield’s late wife, has distributed more than 135,000 bottles of the supplements. Stubblefield accepts both donations of the supplements or financial donations — but he can make financial donations go farther since he can use them purchase the supplements at a discount. The County Council of Bedford County Family and Community Education Clubs met Sept. 28 with all clubs in attendance. Business discussed was the regional meeting report, the state conference, and the Bedford County Fair. The date of the Countywide meeting was changed to Thursday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. at the UT/TSU Extension Office. The program will be "Holiday Fun Foods." Destinations & Diversions: Empty bowls but a full October schedule (Entertainment ~ 10/18/18)
The ninth annual Empty Bowls Luncheon will be held 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at First Baptist Church on Depot Street. The event benefits Fresh Start Center of Shelbyville. Each person attending will receive, in addition to their meal, a handmade pottery bowl for later use. There will be a silent auction as well... -

Building codes proposal gains committee nod (Local News ~ 10/18/18)
Bedford County Board of Commissioners’ rules and legislative committee gave its recommendation Tuesday night to a proposed tweak of the county’s building codes. The county, which enforces building codes outside of city limits, currently uses the 2015 edition of the International Residential Code. A 31-year-old man accused of soliciting teenage girls on Facebook is in custody. Jeron Lewis Parman of Shelbyville was arrested Wednesday afternoon, Detective Sgt. Charles Merlo said.
