Vikings knock off Bobcats in OT (High School Sports ~ 02/13/19)
UNIONVILLE — For Coach Robbie Davis of the Community Vikings, it was a long day in preparation for his team’s matchup against the Giles County Bobcats in a play-in game of the District 12-AA tournament Tuesday night. In my line of work [pharmacy], you really see the reality of addiction. It hurts me to see so many people I went to school with in that position. They seem like the nicest souls.. but tell them you don't feel comfortable filling their suboxone with their benzos and another side shows...

Honor Society officers attend D.C. conference (Local News ~ 02/13/19)
Shelbyville Central High School National Honor Society officers attended the national LEAD leadership conference in Washington, D.C., Jan. 31 - Feb. 3. President Kaiden Garland, Vice-President Kimberly Harmon, Secretary Skylar Thompson, Treasurer Karla Ochoa Solano, and sponsor Claudia House met with 1,200 other NHS members from 38 states and four countries, and learned both from guest speakers and from their peers at other schools. While in the D.C. area, they also toured Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian African American History Museum, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and visited the memorials on the National Mall. Inmate tries to sneak pills into workhouse (Local News ~ 02/13/19)
Two pills were brought to Bedford County Workhouse by an inmate returning from a work detail Monday, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said. Erik Blake Thornton, 28, of Lewisburg was removed from the work detail after being seen talking to a woman at the Shelbyville-Bedford Count Senior Citizens Center. A jailer discovered acetaminophen and hydrocodone pills in Thornton’s waistband, deputy Savannah Martin’s report said... -
2019 Spay Day proclamation (Local News ~ 02/13/19)
Spaying and neutering of dogs and cats has been shown to dramatically reduce overpopulation of animals. In addition, statistics from the Middle Tennessee Spay & Neuter Clinic demonstrate tax dollars are saved as well. Fee changes urged for city animal control (Local News ~ 02/13/19)
People open their hearts to dogs and cats housed with Shelbyville Animal Control, according to recent department reports. Still, Poochie and Scratchy have to be vetted and fed, which has led to a proposed increase in fees. The issue will be discussed Thursday night by Shelbyville City Council, which will meet at 6 p.m. in the City Hall annex courtroom... -
County bond refinancing to save $5.5 million (Local News ~ 02/13/19)
Bedford County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday night to approve a bond refinancing package that is estimated to save the county more than $5.5 million over the remaining life of the bonds, or $4.3 million in today's dollars. The refinancing will keep the same term as the original bonds. It will even out some high and low bond payments called for in the original bond issue... -
