Grubb speaks to veterans group (Local News ~ 04/05/19)
The Vietnam Era Veterans group and guests gathered to hear recently-retired Army colonel Brooke Grubb talk about his military deployment to Afghanistan with the Tennessee Army National Guard. Grubb served in-country from November 2017 to July 2018 in charge of logistics at Battalion headquarters. He described the challenge of originally working on the drawdown of American presence there, which instead transitioned into a build-up of troops. He also discussed dealing with the complexity of the Afghan government, which consists of 14 different ethnic groups, and talked about issues with the Taliban. Grubb observed that “the problem Americans have is we expect other cultures to act like us.” The group will meet Apr. 11 at El Mexico on North Main Street.
