'Rusty Pilot' training held (Local News ~ 04/17/19)
Shelbyville Flight Academy, in cooperation with Shelbyville Municipal Airport, sponsored an Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association (AOPA) “rusty pilot” seminar on Saturday. Several guests attended from Kentucky and Alabama. Food for the event was provided by Shelbyville Flight Academy. Such seminars are part of a national program designed to bring pilots who have not flown in some time more up-to-date with changes in airspace and other regulations. Community events are held on a regular basis at the city airport. Shelbyville Aviation Day, with numerous public activities and displays, will take place April 27. Instructors will be available that day to answer any questions regarding flight lessons. (Submitted photo) -

Tool theft suspect arrested after chase (Local News ~ 04/17/19)
A suspect in tool thefts at Shelbyville Mills Road homes in January was arrested Monday after a Shelbyville police detective saw him driving near Walmart. Brandon Dwayne Lenon, 21, of East Parkway was followed by Detective Nathan Everhart from the North Main Street to rural northern Bedford County. Bedford County government continues to make preparations for the move of Bedford County Jail, Bedford County Workhouse, Bedford County Sheriff's Department and the county judicial system to their new home on Hart's Chapel Road. During Tuesday night's meeting of Bedford County Board of Commissioners' law enforcement and workhouse committee, Commissioner Bill Anderson said the recent report from the University of Tennessee's County Technical Assistance Service about the 61 people it will take to staff the new jail and workhouse left him feeling "grossly misled." Happy birthday, Hazel! (Features ~ 04/17/19)
Hazel Gordon, 102, enjoyed another birthday celebration Wednesday with family and friends at Celebration Way Senior Living Center. The Lynchburg native married her sweetheart, Richard J. “Cracker” Gordon, who served on Bedford County Commission and passed away in 2010.
