The Shonta’ Whorley Lamb Memorial Softball Scholarship is presented each year to a Shelbyville Central High School senior softball player who is continuing the sport into college. This year’s scholarship winner is Taylor Sanders, right, who is planning to continue her game at Western Kentucky University. Wrapped in Quilts of Valor (Local News ~ 06/06/19)
Amy Martin (not pictured), a supporter of the national Quilt of Valor program, notes this day of commemorating D-Day and all local veterans was particularly special. Grady Lovell has been a friend and her plumber for 40 years. Lovell told her that he and four other Bell Buckle High School graduates of 1957 all left for military service and all five returned home. Martin made five quilts, but only three veterans were able to attend the event held recently at Bell Buckle United Methodist Church. Left to right are: Lovell, U.S. Army 1957-62; Bob Beachboard, Army 1957-62; Ronald Coop, Air Force 1957-61. Not present were: Burr Beachboard (Bob’s twin brother), Army 1957-62 and Edward Adcock, Army 1957-60.
