Two suspects have been charged with stealing four laptop computers from a Shelbyville school, police said Thursday, and one of them is also charged with taking a four-wheeler from an athletic complex. Husband and wife Anthony Jason Merlo, 48, and Jamie Elizabeth Merlo, 39, were arrested Wednesday, Detective Sgt. Sam Jacobs said. Former county mayor Eugene Ray, who won state acclaim for strengthening the county’s financial management and worked to bring the county more options for higher education, died Wednesday at age 82.
