Sherwin Dean Northcutt will be the speaker for the Oct. 10 meeting of Vietnam Era Veterans at El Mexico Restaurant on North Main Street. Start time is 6 p.m. Northcutt served as a first lieutenant infantry platoon leader and company commander in Vietnam and was recognized by President Jimmy Carter for Outstanding Community Achievement as a Vietnam Veteran. His military honors include Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Metal with Oak Leaf, Viet Nam Service Ribbon, Viet Nam Campaign Metal, Viet Nam Metal of Honor, National Defense Service Metal, Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry, two Overseas bars, Expert Badge M-16, Expert Badge-Machine Gun, Expert Badge .45 Cal. Woman scammed over false lawsuit (Local News ~ 10/02/19)
A caller claiming to be from “Alpha Litigation Associates” convinced a Bedford County woman she was being sued over past due medical bills and took $400 from her bank account, according to a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office report. The caller told the victim she owed around $5,400 and could pay $400 up front, then $100 per month. She gave the caller her debit card number and was sent a contract which she signed electronically... -
