Myrtie Ann Evins Doak, 85, of Shelbyville, formerly of Lebanon, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 6, 2019 at The Waters nursing home in Shelbyville after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Partlow Funeral Chapel in Lebanon. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Last week at Cascade, the National English Honors Society and Interact club began hosting a book drive. Members of each club decorated cardboard boxes for students and teachers to donate books into. The boxes are placed in each classroom, either in front of the classroom or just near the door. The books are being collected for the BCLA library...

Soup kitchen fundraiser (Local News ~ 10/07/19)
Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen held a fund-raising dinner last month, with Us Two & Him providing entertainment. Organizers have declined to say how much was raised at the event, but are still trying to raise $50,000 towards a matching pledge. An anonymous donor has pledged to match three times the amount raised up to $50,000. -

Last Tuesday, Middle Tennessee Spay Neuter Clinic, 846 Union St., marked its 25,000 surgery since opening in 2010. Terry and Jennifer Pruitt of Lewisburg received dog Bentley’s sterilization at no charge for being client number 25,000. The couple, who had only recently added the Pomeranian to their family, found out about the non-profit clinic from a friend. MTSNC will further celebrate by hosting a special reception 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. -

To help ease the ills associated with a stray dog problem, Shelbyville City Council plans to approve Thursday night a low bid of $255,200 to make additional space at the dog harbor.
