There's been a blueprint for Cascade's success this season—play lock down defense and be opportunistic when scoring chances arise. The Lady Champs executed that schematic to a tee on Tuesday evening in the Region 3-A semifinals against the Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences (CSAS) in a 4-0 victory... -

4-H has made 'a big change' in Blackburn's life (Features ~ 10/23/19)
I am part of Bedford County 4-H. I am involved in the sheep project and love it! By being involved in 4-H I have had to learn to lead groups of youth, speak in front of people and keep myself organized because I stay very busy. 4-H has already made a big change in my life! I also participate in Livestock Judging, am a member of Honor Club and enjoy the Photography Project Group. There are many other things you can do in 4-H too but sheep is the best!... -

What is 4-H? What do you do in 4-H? How did you get involved in 4-H? What is your 4-H project? These are questions that I am frequently asked when I tell people that I am in 4-H. This is when I take the opportunity to tell them all about 4-H and my project... -

Where agriculture and tourism meet (Features ~ 10/23/19)
Agritourism -- the development of public attractions on farm property -- has become a trend in recent years. Whether it's "pick your own" berry farms or pumpkin patches, cornfield mazes, or more elaborate attractions, the trend continues to grow. Bedford County's agritourism infrastructure has been growing as well. ... -

Who will pay for socialism?
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/23/19)
To the Editor: The dictionary defines socialism as, “political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.” In other words, everything is managed by a totalitarian government...

Trump should be removed
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/23/19)
To the Editor: Someone is above the law and that is Donald J. Trump. He has obstructed justice, committed quid pro quo, violated the emolument clause, and continues working with Russia. What has been done to keep him from violating our laws? A sitting president cannot be charged with a crime due to an ignorant DOJ rule. Trump will never be removed from office as long as Mitch McConnell and his gang are in control of the Senate and Bill Barr is Attorney General...

Take a closer look at roundabout
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/23/19)
To the Editor: I’m not writing in absolute opposition to the idea of a traffic circle at the Cascade School intersection. I do want to raise some concerns. Traffic circles are inherently tricky, requiring a particular driving mindset and skills. Be aware that young, inexperienced drivers would be trying to navigate it safely...

‘Murder Mystery at Murder Mystery’ (Local News ~ 10/23/19)
The Fly Community Theatre will present “The Murder Mystery At The Murder Mystery” Friday and Saturday evenings at The Fly Arts Center. A taco bar meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the performance. Admission is a minimum $15 donation to The Fly. The players at The Murder Mystery Playhouse are rehearsing a new show, “Putting a Little English On It.” It’s a not-so-good attempt at a British murder mystery, complete with cheesy dramatic music and British accents. As expected at the final dress rehearsal, the lights go out and a character dies onstage — only this murder wasn’t in the script. Standing, from left: Jesse Northcutt, Alex Torrejon, Jackie Roberts, Jeanne Edwards, Thacher Cleveland. On the floor are Dylan Steenburgen (sitting up) and Ty Grabovich. -
