HMS food drive (Local News ~ 12/16/19)
Harris Middle School recently hosted its annual canned food drive. Over a week’s time, students brought in a variety of canned food to help the needy within the community. The student body donated a total of 866 canned food items to the drive at Shelbyville Central High School. The largest donation of over 400 cans was from 8th grader Juwan Henderson. Robotics grant (Local News ~ 12/16/19)
Small Town Robotics Team recently held a meeting with some reps from the Schneider Electric Corporation, which generously provided a $2,000 grant. The team will compete Feb. 8 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and Feb. 22 in Huntsville, Alabama. Small Town Robotics is comprised of Shelbyville Central High students, but operates independently from the school. Last week at Cascade got off to a good start when Julie Elliott, principal of Bedford County Learning Academy, came to Cascade. A man who told police he had taken two “hits” of LSD before driving his small convertible at 80-90 mph into a utility pole Saturday afternoon faces multiple charges. The wooden manger used for decades in Christmas nativity programs at Crowell’s Chapel Lutheran Church in Halls Mill is estimated to be at least 90 years old. Church members note that the late Virgil Crowell, who died in 2017, at age 94, often recalled how the men of the church cut the branches and put the manger together when he was a boy. Several other senior members of the church recall it was used in nativity plays when they were children.
