Sylvia Pinson, center, chair of Bedford County’s 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, was the speaker at Shelbyville Rotary Club. She gave an update on the procedures in place to ensure that everyone is counted. In March, local residents will receive invitations to respond to the Census. Online response is encouraged. An accurate count is important because state and federal governments base many funding decisions, as well as state and federal legislative districts, on population; if a city or county’s population is not completely counted, it may not receive its fair share of revenues or its full voice in the governmental process.
