Spelling bee winner (Local News ~ 02/28/20)
Seventh grader Abigail Voorhes-Fontenot of Shelbyville, seen here, claimed first place in the annual spelling bee at The Webb School. Eighth grader Gray Hamilton of High Point, North Carolina, placed second, and sixth grader Alora Pearce of Tullahoma placed third. Daiva Berzinskas, International Program director, organized the spelling bee. English teacher Kevin Finn and English department chair Jacqueline Boyanton served as judges. -
Pre-spring dusting (Local News ~ 02/28/20)
Friday morning’s snow dusting was quite varied in accumulation amounts in counties only a few miles apart. Some portions of Lynchburg saw a nice dusting, while the daffodils in Bedford County escaped snow but certainly bowed to the cold weather. -

Suspect charged with abusing child (Local News ~ 02/28/20)
A Shelbyville man has been charged with child abuse after his girlfriend's 5-year-old child was brought to a Shelbyville hospital with serious injuries early Thursday. Both Mary Cathryn Perry and her grandson, William Scott, have celebrated their 18th birthdays in the past few months. That’s because Perry, 72, was born on Feb. 29, Leap Day, which only occurs every four years. Today is her 18th birthday. (Scott’s birthday was on Oct. 5 last year.) Perry said she and her grandson have enjoyed the coincidence. “We have had lots of fun with this,” she said. -
