The owner of a pickup truck found out the hard way Friday afternoon it’s dangerous to leave vehicles unlocked with the keys in the ignition in business parking lots. Drunk driver slams head-on into oncoming car (Local News ~ 05/19/20)
Three witnesses saw an allegedly-intoxicated driver run a traffic signal, cross a median and strike a vehicle head-on shortly before noon Sunday on Lane Parkway, Shelbyville police said. Video cameras captured Joshua Cain Cook, 30, of Moulder Road running the light and passing three vehicles at a high rate of speed in the turning lane on North Main Street at Lane Parkway, swerving his older Chevrolet Blazer across the median and striking a Nissan Altima head-on, officer Brock Horner’s report said. ... -
Normandy opts in for new ‘clean’ street lights (Local News ~ 05/19/20)
Normandy residents will soon have a new and improved view of their streets at night. The town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a contract last week with Duck River Electric to replace all the town’s 39 street light bulbs with LEDs. LED lighting provides better quality “clean light,” according to Chip Pinion with Duck River Electric, and it’s less wasteful as the light is not dispersed into the sky where it’s not needed. ... -

On May 15. the Tennessee Governor’s Economic Recovery Group announced its intention to lift capacity restrictions on restaurants and retail stores starting May 22. Chamber wants joint industrial recruiting effort with city, county (Local News ~ 05/19/20)
National Pen is not pulling up stakes in Shelbyville, contrary to recent reports, Shelbyville-Bedford County Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Allen Pitner said last week. After conferring with National Pen officials, Pitner released this statement Friday: “I know there has been a great deal of concern in town about National Pen. Like many companies, National Pen has experienced a severe downturn in business during this pandemic and had to reduce staff. This has occurred in all of their operations worldwide and not just Shelbyville. While they are also going through some restructuring, they are not leaving Shelbyville. We have a great relationship with them and continue to work with them on an ongoing basis. Changes in their industry have precipitated some restructuring of their organization on a global basis, but the bottom line is that they are not leaving Shelbyville.” . ... -
