Ag Center grant (Local News ~ 08/04/20)
The US Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program has approved a $45,000 grant which will be used to put a concrete floor in the exhibition building at Bedford County Agriculture and Education Center. From left are USDA Rural Development state director Jim Tracy; County Mayor Chad Graham; and USDA Rural Development area director Faye McEwen. The exhibition building is used for exhibitor booths, poultry competition, and a children’s area during the annual Bedford County Fair. It’s also been used for a variety of other activities over the years. Replacing the dirt floor with concrete is expected to increase the building’s functionality and make it more attractive to a greater variety of potential uses. -

A woman who allegedly threatened a pizza delivery driver she thought was involved with her boyfriend was arrested after attempting to hit a police officer Friday night, according to an incident report. Rebecca Louise Glowacay, 33, of a Madison Street apartment complex allegedly beat the pizza driver’s car with her fists while telling her in front of an officer, “If I get my hands on you...” The driver told police she doesn’t know Glowacay’s boyfriend and parked next to his vehicle while trying to determine her customer’s apartment via cellphone. ... -

Local schools open, COVID numbers up (Local News ~ 08/04/20)
As Bedford County schools opened this week, there were 19 new cases of COVID-19 found last week in school age children — age 5 through 18. The number of active cases in the county is also rising significantly, with a daily average (from July 27 to Aug. 2) of 202.7 people who are infected, nearly a 30 percent increase over the previous three weekly counts. The highest daily active case count in Bedford County hit a peak over this last weekend — 231 on Sunday and 226 on Saturday... -
