Mary Monica Slaughter, 89, of Winchester died Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Bailey Manor in Manchester. Private services will be held with interment at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, Winchester, is handling arrangements.

Alvis Ray Harris, 87, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Glen Oaks Health and Rehab after an extended illness. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Wheel Cemetery with Brother Jon Bell officiating. Doak-Howell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Jane Gillum Walker, 89. of Shelbyville died Wednesday, August 12, 2020. The family will hold a private family service in Knoxville at East Tennessee State Veterans Pavilion, 5901 Lyons View Pike in Knoxville, TN. on August 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Walker will be interred beside her late husband at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemeter, 7931 McCrory Lane in Nashville.

With a stroke of the pen this week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, made it much more difficult for people to recover damages who were harmed after contracting coronavirus from a business, nursing home, school or government agency. Lee, on Monday, touted the legislation as “historic” and argued the law would protect businesses from “frivolous lawsuits,” according to an Associated Press story...

Bedford County Schools superintendent Don Embry said Tuesday night that his biggest issue right now, just two weeks into the school year, is maintaining enough classroom teachers. He told school board members of the 52 staff, including a school administrator, who’ve been quarantined due to COVID-19, six have tested positive...

Mrs. Mildred Gordon Harrison Roberts, 105, of Murfreesboro died August 18, 2020. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 22nd, at Raus Church of Christ, Julian Goodpaster officiating. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Rosebank Cemetery. Hillcrest Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
