Mark McGee, a freelance writer and executive director of United Way of Bedford County, recently won two awards for feature writing by Tennessee Sports Writers Association for his work in 2019. He was awarded second place in Division III for the Shelbyville Times-Gazette and third for Lipscomb University in Division IV for college sports coverage.The Times Gazette articles featured soccer player Olivia Doak, the 1969 World Grand Championship and the storm that almost canceled it, and the 1956 Shelbyville Little League All-star team which won the 1956 state championship. The Lipscomb stories featured two softball players. -
