One of Bell Buckle’s oldest residents succumbed this week. What was left of an ancient willow oak tree at the corner of Main Street and Cumberland Street in Bell Buckle was cut down. A large portion of the tree fell during a storm on June 30 this year. In 2010 it was named “Most Notable Tree,” and is believed to be one of the oldest trees in Bell Buckle.

There are approximately 5,370 Bedford County households who rent their housing. According to a report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the fair market rent for a two bedroom house or apartment in Bedford County is $768 a month. Lillie Vern Henderson, 93, of Lynchburg died Monday, August 31, 2020 at her home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Burial will be at Highview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon.
