Gary Dennis Cagle, 74, of Shelbyville died Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his residence. A memorial service will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Gowen-Smith Chapel with Dr. Marvin “Buddy” Koonce officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family is asking that masks be worn at the service and burial. -

First Presbyterian youth comfort other kids (Local News ~ 11/07/20)
First Presbyterian Church Youth recently collected stuffed animals and fleece blankets for a project called “Comforting Kids.” These bags will be distributed to kids in stressful situations. The group collected enough items for 80 bags. Participating were: Ean Matusek, Jacob Flannagan, Hunter Wilhelm, Grace Wilhelm and Sara Flannagan. Shelbyville Police Department’s Carol Jean accepted the donations on behalf of her department. -

David Williams Sr., right, who served the county and city for 54 years in law enforcement, was recently honored at a retirement reception at the VFW building on Depot Street. Community High School held a retirement luncheon recently in honor of three staff members who retired at the end of last school year. The spring ceremony was cancelled due to the pandemic and the closing early of school. Left to right, John Batts (Special Education Assistant), Lynn Laura (Comprehensive Development Assistant), and Jeff Gilmore (Driver's Education.) Principal Dr. Robert Ralston (not pictured) offered congratulations to each retiree before they shared humorous events that happened during their time at Community. Retired educator Reva Martin was surprised Wednesday when a parade of cars, including a Shelbyville policeman with lights flashing, drove by her home, honking and greeting her by name.
