Chamber presents annual awards

"A credit to the family and the community" was the descriptive introduction of last night's Chamber of Commerce award winners, with four local residents honored for their outstanding contributions in the four designated categories.

Deery Eakin Volunteer of the Year -- Gail Binion, director and member of the board of directors of the Community Clinic of Shelbyville and its medical advisory committee.

Outstanding Leadership -- Danny Law, Renegar's Drug Store pharmacist who, last October, wrestled an armed robber to the floor which resulted in the prevention of what could have been a multiple homicide or hostage situation.

Special Services Award -- John T. Bobo, county attorney for Bedford and Moore counties and city judge for Shelbyville.

Franklin Yates Lifetime Achievement Award -- Henry C. Tilford Jr., the "most gregarious of goodwill ambassadors for both The Celebration and the entire walking horse industry."
