Eaglettes keep it simple in win

The Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes won by doing as little as possible Thursday night -- although, with the District 8-AAA regular season champions (22-5, 12-0) winning 73-41 over the Hendersonville Lady Commandos, one would have thought they'd have pulled out all the stops.

"Right now I'm going to show as little as I can show to these other teams," Eaglette head coach Rick Insell said. "There were some teams here scouting and videoing tonight and as long as we keep games in control and show as little as we can show I'm going to go as long as I can because every time we step on the floor somebody from East Tennessee to West Tennessee is going to have us filmed."

Ashleigh Newman owned the basket. She scored a season high of 35 points, 20 in the second quarter. She couldn't be stopped, scoring from just about every position on the floor. She even added a three-point field goal to her second quarter reportoire.

Insell believes he has a special bunch of girls especially with the senior leadership. "I said at the beginning of the year they could be the best team I ever had and I still believe that even with five losses," said Insell. "We, the coaching staff, were responsible for those early losses. We didn't have them ready. We can't do anything about that now; all we can do is look to win the state championship, keep the kids healthy and go out on a positive note."
