Now, if we could just see the Tennessee defense sign that to the offense, or vice versa, the world would be a better place for the Vols. All season long, the team has struggled to have offense, defense and special teams work together and all succeed on the same day.
"It seems like when the defense plays well, offensively we don't play well," Tennessee offensive coordinator Randy Sanders said. "When the offense plays well, the defense doesn't play as well. The important thing to remember is that we find a way to win. It may not be as pretty as we would like sometimes, but they're still wins."
The Wildcats roll into Knoxville on Saturday after getting beaten by a combined score of 72-0 over the last two seasons between these teams. But, if you recall, the last UT team that headed down to Atlanta for the SEC title in 2001 faced a different kind of UK team. That Vol team in particular was likely the best since the national championship team from 1998, and in 2001, it took a huge game from former Vol wide receiver and current New Orleans Saint Donte Stallworth to pull out a 38-35 victory in Lexington.
That game, as well as last week's 38-33 scare in Nashville, just go to prove the age old adage that when bitter rivals get together, you can throw out the record book.
