This annual social event recognizes four local women for their outstanding efforts in business and volunteerism. The four categories are:
*Professional Woman of the Year, sponsored by Heritage Jewelers -- given to the person who has a leadership role that develops herself and others, exemplifies leadership qualities outside the business world and throughout the community, and has an impact that is beneficial to Bedford County.
Previous winners include Mayor Geneva Smith, Marie Parks, Janeane Taylor, Sharon Edwards, Tamara Smith, Kathy Prater, Valerie McConnell, Karen Thrasher, Pat Hastings and Esther McConkey.
*Secretary of the Year, sponsored by Earl Hudson Buick-Pontiac-GMC -- presented to the secretary whose regular duties and administrative functions aid in carrying out the day-to-day operations of her office.
Previous winners are Summer Leverette, Elaine Reed, Gay Phelps, Bonita Gray, Virginia Ann Haynes, Janice Clanton, Mary Pinkston, Johnnie Templeton, Dawn Rogers, Gayle Bogle.
*Volunteer of the year, sponsored by Bedford County Medical Center -- given to someone who has devoted time and energy to the betterment of individuals and organizations in the community through volunteerism.
Previous winners are Helen Garner, Rocio Gonzalez, Elizabeth Anderson, Janie Burke, Virginia Pearce, Marilyn Massengale, Helen Marsh, Jean Nelson, Polly Lee, and Mary Jo Reynolds.
*Faithful Service, sponsored by Union Planters Bank -- presented to someone who is dedicated to her profession and who has devoted many years of service either to her company or to her chosen field.
Previous winners are Ardis Rittenberry, Donita Leverette, Venita McGee, Kim Nash, Catherine McClenney, Claudette Cobble, Ruth Coop, Wilene Sanders.
