GADA Films has announced that Jason Ritter, one of the stars of "Our Very Own," will appear at Saturday's premiere at the Capri Theater, along with the writer/director, producers and many other cast members.
Cameron Watson, the Shelbyville native who conceived the movie that was shot here last year is returning home. Also attending the screening is executive producer Bob McLean, and producers Shannon McMahon Lichte, Maggie Biggar and Steve Cubine.
The premiere starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Capri.
Jason Ritter is the son of actors John Ritter and Nancy Morgan and the grandson of famed film cowboy Tex Ritter. He recently completed work on the feature film "Happy Endings," starring Lisa Kudrow and Maggie Gyllenhaal. His other feature film credits include "Mumford," "Swimfan," "Freddy vs. Jason," and "Raise Your Voice" opposite Hilary Duff.
Also in town for the premiere will be Amy Landers, whose television credits include "Joey," a recurring role on "Frasier," roles in "JAG," "The Trouble with Normal," "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Days of Our Lives."
Steven Griffith is also appearing Saturday. His film credits include the role of 'Tex' in "Forrest Gump" and "The Program."
Mary Badham is also confirmed to attend the weekend festivities. Badham is a legend in cinema history, playing Scout in the classic 1962 film, "To Kill a Mockingbird," and her comeback cameo appearance in "Our Very Own" has generated worldwide media attention.
Also confirmed for Saturday's premiere is Autumn Reeser, who plays Melora in the film. Since shooting "Our Very Own" last summer in Shelbyville, she has appeared in the ABC sitcom "Complete Savages" and has just been cast as a new member of the smash hit television series "The O.C."
Veteran character actress Beth Grant is also confirmed to attend. Also attending is Murfreesboro local Derek Carter, who is returning from Los Angeles for the premiere. Carter has landed a new series, "Campus Ladies," on the Oxygen channel since being "discovered" by the filmmakers of "Our Very Own."
Cody Block and John Will Clay, who play the "bad guys" in the film, will be on hand at the screening as well. Also walking down the red carpet at the Capri will be cast members Michael McKee; Dale Dickey, a veteran character actress who has appeared in many television series; Danny Vinson, who is in the upcoming Johnny Cash film biography, "Walk the Line"; Martha McNeely and Ashley Griffith.
Local stars Deborah Obenchain, Nancy June Brandon and Janice Cole will also be on hand Saturday and T. Scott Cunningham, Shelbyville native and a supporting player in the film, is arriving from New York for a Sunday-only appearance.
East Depot St. will be closed to traffic at noon Saturday so that the Shelbyville Public Works Department can get the area ready for the event.
Before the premiere, you can have a chance to meet the folks from Hollywood at the Fly Arts Center at a public, pre-screening reception held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and are available at any merchant on the Shelbyville square. Attire is anything from jeans to black tie. For more details contact Betty Harrison at 684-6223 or Janice Cole of the Arts Council at 703-7613.
"Our Very Own" is a semi-autobiographic tale set in 1978 starring Allison Janney, Keith Carradine and Cheryl Hines, along with rising stars Ritter, Reeser and Hilarie Burton.
The movie premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June and was well received, according to Watson.
"The word of mouth in Hollywood on this film is very positive," Watson said at the time. "The buzz is incredibly high pitched."
