Drug suspect faces nine charges

Friday, November 25, 2005

A drug defendant being arraigned in Bedford County Circuit Court this week was arrested again when six indictments were added to the three he anticipated.

That's what happened to Napoleon Alexander (Sonny) Bryan, 62, of Crestview Circle, who could have expected three indictments because on Oct. 25 he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and sent charges from three arrests to the grand jury.

However, Tim Lane, director of the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and agent Billy Ostermann presented six more cases to grand jurors and they issued that many more indictments against Bryan.

In each case, Byran is charged with either possession with intent to sell, selling, delivering and/or delivering with the intent to sell Dilaudid, a pain medication.

The charges allege Bryan illegally had the drug, also known as hydromorphone, on July 8 and 11, Aug. 2 and 9, court records show.

Indictment papers don't normally include the detail found in arrest warrants, but court records show the cases against Bryan were clearly made with the help of a confidential informant working under the supervision of the drug task force.

Bryan was one of less than a dozen people indicted by the grand jury on Monday.

They include Charles Frambo Jr., 37, who was indicted for allegedly violating the sex offender registry law.

Frambo, also known as Charles Hord, was arrested Nov. 7 when an arrest warrant was issued saying he is registered as of Sept. 11 with an Upton Heights address in Lebanon and that he'd been living at a house on Wartrace-Bell Buckle Road since Sept. 25.

Bedford County Sheriff's Capt. Becky Hord wrote that Frambo failed to report his address change to the Bedford County Sheriff's Department after he moved from Wilson County.

The indictment alleging violation of the registry law states that Frambo "is a violent sexual offender."

Indictment does not mean the defendant is guilty. That is determined by a trial jury or a judge accepting guilty pleas, or ruling after a bench trial as allowed by the defendant.

Also indicted Monday were:

* Alecia Diane Cooper, 50, of Mt. Juliet. Assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer, all alleged on Aug. 31.

* Brian Hill, 21, Shelbyville. Two counts of vandalism filed June 22 for crimes allegedly committed on June 18.

* Julius Cameron Hill, 22, South Cannon Boulevard. Three counts of simple possession of drugs in three categories and two drug possession charges; one with intent to sell and another with intent to deliver.

* Michael Wayne Queener Jr., 24, Christiana. One count of theft of property valued at more than $500 as alleged on June 21. He was arrested on Aug. 10.

* Courtney Jean Small, 23, Columbia. Charged as a habitual offender on Oct. 17.

* Alton Ray Thomas, 47, Lewisburg. Fifth offense of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and a fifth offense of driving on a revoked license alleged on Aug. 10.

* Michael Allen Toombs II, 29, Wartrace. Fourth offense of DUI alleged on Feb. 21.
