Tim Henry Taylor, 46, of Woodland Avenue was a passenger in a Jeep Cherokee involved in a chase from Bethany Lane to the Maplewood Drive-Martha Street intersection.
Officer Tim Fox saw Taylor, who had been handcuffed, "spit something out and then start to swallow something" while being searched by Officer Jody Shelton.
"A small rock of crack cocaine weighing approximately .07 grams was found at his feet," Shelton said. "He quickly swallowed something and when we told him to spit it out, he spit out an empty piece of paper."
Taylor was charged with possession of a schedule II drug and violation of probation. He is being held on $6,000 bond at Bedford County Jail.
The Cherokee's driver, George Tyrone Ransom, 45, whose address is listed as Thompson Street in the jail intake listing and Regent Drive in the police report, allegedly ran a stop sign without using a turn signal as he turned from Couch Lane to Depot Street shortly after 10:15 p.m.
Ransom "refused" to stop and "accelerated" when blue-lighted and "crossed over two intersections without stopping at a stop sign," Shelton said.
Charges of evading arrest, driving on a revoked license and violation of probation were filed against Ransom, who is in Bedford County Jail on $17,500 bond.
