The husband of the woman found murdered May 23 near Deason was charged Friday with first degree murder in her death.
Rafael Jennings, 45, allegedly shot his wife, Rita Jennings, 36, once in the head in their home on the Joy Vail Allman property, Detective James Bonner of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department said.
"We and the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Identification) worked the case for two weeks," Bonner said.
The gun was recovered in a field near a store north of the Jennings' residence, Bonner said. Rita Jennings' car was found May 23, earlier in the day before her body was discovered, at a store about two miles from her home.
Computer checks showed Jennings, who is originally from Michigan, has arrest records in Nashville and Rutherford County, Bonner said. Jennings has not been arrested before in Bedford County.
Jennings is being held without bond at Bedford County Jail.
