Joyce Tune has announced her candidacy for re-election to a Seventh District seat on Bedford County Board of Commissioners in the Aug. 3 general election.

Tune, a lifelong resident of Bedford County, is the widow of George Tune, who held the same county commission seat prior to his death. She operated Tune's Union 76 / U-Haul / Greyhound for 28 years and has worked for Musgrave Pencil Company for the past 15 years.

She serves on the county commission's law enforcement and workhouse committee and various study committees and has served on the boards of Bedford County Medical Center and the Child Development Center. She is a member of Edgemont Baptist Church.

Tune said she has performed wedding services for more than 1,000 couples since becoming a county commissioner.

Tune has five children, two stepchildren, 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

"I would like to contribute for another term," she said. "We have the school building program in front of us, and infrastructure to see to. I want a good education for all citizens of Bedford County.

"I'm very concerned that we have adequate health care in this county.

"I hope that we can have a commission that will work amicably for the betterment of this county."
