Chili's site plan receives approval

Friday, September 29, 2006

A site plan for Chili's Grill and Bar was approved Thursday by the Shelbyville Municipal Planning Commission. The 4,215 square foot restaurant is to be located at 1734 North Main St., the same address as Lowe's.

The company's representative is Perry Engineering LLC. The first Chili's was opened in 1975 and now has over 1,000 locations in 49 states and 23 countries.

Also approved at last night's meeting was an annexation request for 271.90 acres located on Highway 64 East owned by John Legate and Tim Priest. No other plans for the land has been made public at this time.

A site plan request for a 10,000 square foot hangar at the Shelbyville Municipal Airport was given the OK by the commission as well a site plan for a 20,000 square foot addition to Century Mold at 508 Blue Ribbon Pkwy.

A site plan request was also approved for the new Centerstone facility, to be located on Madison Street in the Triangle Business Park, where ground was recently broken.

A request to rezone property behind 601 Madison St. on Evans St. from C-2 to R-3 failed for lack of a second motion, but a rezoning request for 0.6 acres of land on tax map 89H, Group D, Parcel 9 from R-3 to C-1 was approved.

A preliminary plat was given approval for Rabbit Branch Estates, a 15 lot residential subdivision on 4.27 acres on Rabbit Branch and Hendon Roads.

Planning and zoning director Kip Green also advised the commission that changes had been submitted for a proposed development called Hearthstone, made up of 268 lots, which would be located across from the Shelbyville Airport.

The commission deferred a request last month to rezone 120 acres off of Highway 231 North through Midland Road from R-1 (Low Density Residential) to PUD (Planned Unit Development) for the project.

Some commissioners have criticized the design for the lack of open space. On the previous plat, the lots are 41 feet wide and the spaces between homes would be only 10 feet.
