Local vets on Vietnam Memorial

NASHVILLE -- A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was on display last week in Nashville where the names of those 58,253 who died during the war were read aloud on Sunday.

Sam Baird of Nashville, a volunteer with the replica, searched the organization's computer records with the names of the municipalities and nearby communities of Bedford and Marshall counties. He reported the following names of local servicemen who died in the Vietnam War.

Kenneth Bryant Beckman, 21, Nov. 11, 1971; Jerry Michael Lovell, 22, May 18, 1970; Larry Eugene Mullins, 19, April 1, 1970; Charles Crawford Knapper, 21, Nov. 7, 1969; Hu Blakemore Rhodes, 35, May 24, 1968; Donald Ray Stephenson, 20, May 5, 1968; and Charles Gilbert Tucker, 24, April 6, 1965.

Wartrace

Ben McCoullough, 20, March 7, 1968; and Roy Wayne Rich, 20, Sept. 19, 1968.

Christiana

Billy Lee Mullins, 19, Oct. 5, 1969.

Lewisburg

Roy Nance Manns, 21, May 3, 1967; and James Michael Moore, 20, Nov. 13, 1969.

Chapel Hill

John Noble Sheffield, 21, March 19, 1967.

Completion of the Wall, its landscaping, statue, flagpole and flag on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was on Nov. 11, 1984.
