The Orange and Black got the scoring onslaught going in a hurry as a Hope Mills double and a Kelly Wilson single led off the bottom of the first. Sara Edwards, Ann Mullen and Mary Jett each worked free passes out of Lady Cougar pitcher Katie McKnight. By the end of the opening frame, the Lady Champs had all the runs they needed with a 4-0 upper hand.
Leigha Carter made the advantage stand up, tossing five shutout frames, striking out five without issuing a walk. She lost her no-hit bid in the fifth.
Austin was all smiles afterwards since he picked up his second 'W' with a sound effort on the bump from another pitcher after Wilson hurled a complete game on Monday.
"Both girls went the full game both times. It's going to pay off down the road. If we have to swap them out in a game, we have a lefty and a righty. They are two different pitching styles all the way around."
Mullen and Jett finished with two hits apiece to pace a nine-hit attack.
The Lady Champs bounce back out of district as they head to Lynchburg on Friday to take on Moore County at 4.
