According to Amazon.com, the film is to be released on DVD on July 3 and is currently available for pre-order.
"Our Very Own" was conceived by Shelbyville native Cameron Watson and is a semi-autobiographic tale set in 1978.
The movie is described as an "engaging coming-of-age story about believing in your dreams" which stars "hot, up-and-coming teen stars Jason Ritter, Hilarie Burton and Autumn Reeser and four-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney."
"Itching to leave small-town life in Shelbyville, Tennessee, five friends are sent into a frenzy when they learn hometown-girl-turned-Hollywood-star Sondra Locke may be returning. Believing she's their ticket out, they do everything they can to make it happen," the Amazon page states.
"2005 winner of the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival Grand Prize for Best Feature Film and the Rome International Film Festival's Special Jury Prize, Our Very Own is a heartwarming, hope-filled story about the power of friendship, family and believing in yourself."
The film was bought by Miramax Films last November and was broadcast on STARZ in December. Watson confirmed Monday that GADA Films "is now working with Disney/Buena Vista Home Entertainment on the much anticipated DVD release of the film."
"We are thrilled that the movie is going to be released by such a major player as Walt Disney/Miramax, and that the DVD will be available everywhere," Watson said. "The world will finally get to see our film and our town.
"This is truly the ultimate completion to the circle that the journey of making this movie has been. It started as a dream and is now being released on DVD for all to enjoy through one of the biggest studios in Hollywood. Not bad for 'our Shelbyville movie!'"
As far as any bonus material on the DVD, Watson stated that is strictly up to Disney and what they want to do.
"We have wonderful behind the scenes footage that we shot while there, and we really want it to be included on the DVD, and we are strongly encouraging Disney to use it, but it is ultimately their decision."
Watson said last year that he is hoping that the small film becomes a "sleeper hit."
"We hear it all the time. It has been referred to as 'one of the best little hidden treasures out there' and now we can take it out and show everybody. It won't be hiding anymore."
No changes have been made to the movie since it was shown in Shelbyville in 2005. GADA Films is also working with Spotlight Pictures, the foreign sales company handling worldwide sales of the film for theatrical, TV, and DVD.
Shelbyville audiences were treated to a Hollywood-style premiere in August of 2005 with several screenings held for local residents. The world premiere was held at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June of 2005.
